“Alas, It Ain’t Christmas!” is different than any other track on Starting Out. I don’t know why but it always sounded different. I guess the song wanted to take the listener to another kind of place.

Making this song was the first time I really set myself no limits about the arrangement. It has all kinds of instruments ranging from soprano saxophone to trombone and Super Mario sounds to a string quartet. The mood is very energetic at the beginning, calms down for the interlude and then rises up again towards the end with some nice sound effects (at least in my opinion).

The ending is a tribute to Mozart and Genesis. I almost went too far but not quite.

Oh, and don’t ask about the title. I probably had a fancy reason for the name but I’ve forgotten it.
